Construction at Bidada

I have always found construction sights fascinating. In developing countries almost all of the work is done manually. I was once told that a wheelbarrow will create unemployment for a dozen workers. For that reason contractors hire workers to carry baskets full of sand, stones, and concrete on their heads. On this construction site the workers live in huts on the site. Their kids play on the grounds as their parents work. When the kids are old enough, they too will start their career of working in construction.
her son.

Digital slide show

Each day after photographing at the construction site, I showed a slide show of my favorite images.

Break time

After carrying bags of cement for hours, this mother takes a break and play with her kids.

One of the kids who lives on the construction site came outside to play.

Ilesh Safi

Ilesh was an amazing sweet, scared kid who came to the clinic with his mother. He had several life threatening health issues that would need to be treated in Mumbai. The family had very little money so the organization had to scramble to raise funds to transport and house Ilesh and his family during the treatment.

Doctor Tushar Meta and Ilesh

Tushar Meta, a Canadian doctor volunteered his time at Bidada. The X ray shows a "boot shaped heart", a sign of Tetralogy of Fallot. Ilesh was sent to Mumai for heart surgery.
  1. Ilash suffered from Tetralogy of Fallotm, a congenital heart defect which is also known as "Blue Baby Syndrome". His hands show tell-tail signs of "clubbed fingers", caused by the heart disease.
